Willy Ronis, “Le Nu Provencal,” Gordes, 1949. This is his most famous shot, of his wife, Marie-Anne Lansiaux, at their cottage in Gordes. Ronis called the photo “a major moment in my life, “a prosaic moment of extraordinary poetry.” That label perhaps best describes the totality of his work.
