At their basest elements, animation should evoke an emotional response of some sort before they can claim to be successful. Here are a couple of animation pieces that elicit strong, if different, emotional responses.
The first is “Geist,” from Giant Animation Studios. In it, a shipwrecked fisherman is led to a dark secret.
The second film is “Perfect World,” a video accompaniment to Katie Melua’s song, from her album, In Winter.
Quite a different response between the two, no? Thanks for stopping by.
Stark contrast between the two films. The second was beautiful. Very gently done.

I thought the second would be a nice contrast to the first. It was a little tough, though well done. Glad you liked the second one.

The first was a little heavy going, and yes tough. But then animation stopped being smaltzy decades ago.
